Stadler Polska Sp. z o.o.

Stadler have made new bimodal diagnostic trains to monitor the condition of track infrastrucutre and support maintenance activities.

Challenge for Stadler

Stadler Polska Sp. z o.o. was in search of a highly configurable Hot Axle Box Detection (HABD) system to fulfill their specific product concept requirements. This demand arose as part of their ongoing commitment to enhancing train safety and operational efficiency. Given the critical nature of axle box monitoring, the new system needed to be robust, reliable, and compliant with stringent safety standards.

Project duration

2023-2024

Scope

EKE-Electronics played a pivotal role in supporting the project by providing a comprehensive suite of services. This included assembly, integration, commissioning, and training, with options for both remote and on-site support to accommodate the customer’s preferences. Throughout the project, EKE ensured that all documentation was meticulously prepared and continuously updated based on customer feedback. In addition to technical support, EKE was responsible for conducting thorough safety-related analyses, which included risk assessments and preparing the corresponding safety documentation. To further enhance the project’s viability, EKE conducted Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analyses and reliability prediction calculations. The company also supplied complete RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) documentation to ensure comprehensive safety compliance.

Solution

The solution provided was based on EKE’s onboard Hot Axle Box Detection. It included:

  • Ethernet interface
  • Temperature sensors installed on the trains
  • SIL safety certified HABD application

Benefit

As a result of this collaboration, the customer received a SIL-certified HABD system that was specifically tailored to their requirements and project timelines. EKE provided end-to-end support throughout every project phase, ensuring the seamless integration of the HABD system onto the new trains. The pre-configured safety system facilitated easy installation and customisation, minimising the need for extensive development or modifications. This streamlined approach significantly reduced project complexity and accelerated deployment, enabling the customer to meet all necessary safety standards without significant delays or additional resource demands. The successful implementation of the HABD system not only enhanced safety but also contributed to the overall operational efficiency of Stadler’s new trains.
